Bulldogs Fly by Husson in Season Opener 21-8

FRANKLIN, Mass. – February 27, 2022 – The Dean College men's lacrosse team began the 2022 campaign with a convincing 21-8 victory over Husson University on Sunday afternoon.

Dean (1-0) hits the road on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. game at Sage. Husson (0-1) hosts Southern Maine on Wednesday, March 2 at 4 p.m.

The Bulldogs received six goals and an assist from sophomore Alec Speirs (Old Lyme, Conn.). Sophomore Diego Alvarez-Segee (Saugus, Mass.) recorded four goals and three assists, while junior Matthew Pacheco (Warwick, R.I.) finished with a hat trick. Senior Matt Dowd (West Haven, Conn.) posted a game best five caused turnovers. Sophomore Tyler Benedetto (Jupiter, Fla.) won 20-of-26 faceoffs and picked up 12 ground balls.

Husson was led by senior Gunner McAllister (Albion, Maine) who scored three times. Senior Darryn Bailey (Litchfield, Maine) added two goals and an assist.

The Bulldogs put four goals on the board, in the first, from four different players, including freshman Ryan Clunie's (North Andover, Mass.) first collegiate tally.

Dean added to its lead in the second outscoring Husson 6-2 in the quarter. The home team benefited from a pair of man-up goals and received two goals apiece from Spiers and Pacheco. Freshman Jason Richard (Holden, Mass.) notched his first collegiate score for the Bulldogs.

Alvarez-Segee scored two out of the first three goals of the third as the Bulldogs kept up the attacking pressure. Dean would lead 15-4 after three quarters.

In the fourth, Dean held a 6-4 edge in scoring to account for the 21-8 final. McAllister put home two of his three goals for the Eagles. Speirs had two goals and an assist in the final frame for Dean, while freshman Jaden Wise (Belchertown, Mass.) found the back of the net with his first collegiate goal.

Dean senior Alexander Govoni (Lakeville, Mass.) earned the win with eight saves in 51 minutes of action. Junior James Rollins (Old Lyme, Conn.) worked the final nine minutes and made five saves. Husson goalie Bryan Wagg (Lewiston, Maine) had 18 saves in the loss.

The Bulldogs outshot Husson 62-27.
