Rivier Earns Road Win at Dean, 76-59

FRANKLIN, Mass. – February 10, 2022 – The Dean College women's basketball team fell to Rivier University, 76-59, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) game Thursday evening inside Pieri Gymnasium.  

Dean (2-13, 0-11 GNAC) hits the road on Saturday for a 1 p.m. game at Norwich. Rivier (10-11, 6-8 GNAC) plays at Elms on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Junior Alexah Potter (East Hartford, Conn.) notched her seventh double-double of the season with an impressive 23 points and 16 rebounds to lead Dean. First-year Tori Andrewski (North Sutton, N.H.) registered eight points and 11 rebounds to help the Bulldogs hold a 50-40 edge on the glass.   

Rivier sophomore Lyric Grumblatt (Manchester, N.H.) led all players with 24 points. She made 6-of-14 shots from beyond the arc. Junior forward Heather Ries (Mont Vernon, N.H.) grabbed 11 rebounds. Sophomore Anna Stenger (Weare, N.H.) and first-year Alexa Dufries (Leicester, Mass.) added 12 and 10 points, respectively.

In the first quarter, Potter and Grumblatt led their respective teams with eight points apiece. The Raiders made three three-pointers and turned seven Dean miscues into nine points to lead 19-10 after 10 minutes.

Potter and Grumblatt were at it again in a high-scoring second quarter. Grumblatt paced the Raiders with nine points, while Potter added 10 to finish the first half with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Rivier used the deep ball again to outscore Dean 25-18 in the frame and lead 44-28 at the half.

After a 19-10 third quarter, in favor of Rivier on the scoreboard, Dean shot 63.6% in the fourth to outscore the Raiders 21-13. The Bulldogs defense also held Rivier to 4-of-14 shooting from the floor in the final 10 minutes.
