Mark Blair’s Triple-Double Leads Dean Past Elms, 98-85

FRANKLIN, Mass. – February 10, 2022 – Junior Mark Blair (Rosedale, N.Y.) recorded a triple-double of 16 points, 13 rebounds and 12 assists to lead the Dean College men's basketball team to a 98-85 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory over Elms.

The triple-double is the first for a Bulldog since Jordan Booker '20 posted 34 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists against Emmanuel on Nov. 12, 2019.

Dean improves to 7-14 overall and 2-12 in the conference standings. The Bulldogs travel to Norwich on Saturday for a 3 p.m. tip. Elms falls to 2-17 overall and 2-12 in the GNAC. The Blazers host Rivier on Saturday at noon.

Blair was 6-of-14 from the floor to lead six Bulldogs in double figures to go with five steals. Senior Winston Bryan (Greensboro, S.C.) had a team best 20 points, while senior Traijan Powell (Sierra Vista, Ariz.) added 19. Junior Hunter Meyer (Taylor Mill, Ky.) was 6-of-9 for 13 points to go with seven rebounds.

Elms freshman Roy Mckeithen (Middletown, Conn.) led all players with 25 points. He made 7-of-13 three-pointers. Graduate student D.J. Edelen (Prince George, Va.) was 9-of-17 from the floor to finish with 23 points.

The first half was back and forth as each team shot 43% from the floor. The Bulldogs trailed 37-34 with less than five minutes to go in the first before ending the frame on a 12-3 run to take a 46-40 lead at the break.

Dean pushed its lead to 15, less than five minutes into the second, on a Dion Zhuta (Middlebury, Conn.) layup. He finished the game with 10 points. Elms cut the deficit to eight, 59-51, at 13:42 but that would be as close as they would get. Dean's advantage ballooned to as much as 21 as the home team cruised to the 98-85 victory.

The Bulldogs outrebounded Elms 47-32 and shot 50% from the floor (37-74) and 41.2% from beyond the arc (7-17). Elms shot 43.8% from the field (32-73) and 38.5% from deep (10-26).
