MILTON, Mass - November 8, 2022 - The Dean College women's basketball team fell at Curry, 82-49, in a season opener for both teams.
Dean (0-1) returns home to host Mitchell on Nov. 16. Friday's scheduled game against UMaine Fort Kent has been postponed. Curry (1-0) plays at Fitchburg State on Thursday at 7 p.m.
Sophomore
Cat Thomas (Woodbridge, Conn.) posted a team best 19 points on 7-for-10 shooting for Dean. Sophomore
Tori Viau (Johnston, R.I.) added 13 points, while sophomore
Tori Andrewski (North Sutton, N.H.) grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds.
The Colonels were led by freshman guard Lauren Dunn (19 points, 3 assists, 6 rebounds), Kathryn Dunn (18 points, 3 assists, 8 rebounds), and Kylie McCarthy (10 points, 8 assists, 5 rebounds).
In a close first quarter, Curry came away with a slim 17-15 lead after 10 minutes. Thomas poured in eight points to lead Dean, while Curry's Lauren Dunn (Hanson, Mass.) had six points.
The Colonels pulled away in the second by outscoring the visitors 22-6 to lead 39-21 at the half.
The third quarter mirrored the first frame with a tightly contested 10 minutes of action. Each team shot 33% from the field in the third quarter, but Curry made a couple of deep balls for a 15-12 margin in scoring. The Colonels took a 54-33 lead into the final 10 minutes.
Curry turned in an impressive offensive fourth quarter putting 28 points on the board, whlie Dean mustered 16 to result in the 82-49 final.
