Women's Basketball Drops Home Opener to Mitchell

FRANKLIN, Mass. – November 16, 2022 – The Dean College women's basketball team dropped its home opener to Mitchell College, 65-19, inside Pieri Gymnasium Wednesday evening.

Dean (0-2) welcomes Mount Holyoke to Franklin on Saturday at 3 p.m. Mitchell (2-1) returns to the court on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. road game at Western Connecticut.

Sophomore Tori Andrewski (North Sutton, N.H.) led Dean with six points and a game-high 12 rebounds. First-year Natasha Brito (Fitchburg, Mass.) had four points, while sophomore Cat Thomas (Woodbridge, Conn.) pulled down seven rebounds.

Mitchell received a game best 18 points from senior Dede Stevenson (Hartford, Conn.). She also had six steals. Senior Amina Wiley (New Rochelle, N.Y.) posted a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds. First-year Kyrsten Lucas (Manchester, Md.) contributed 14 points, while senior Kenyada Gedeon (Irvington, N.J.) corralled 11 rebounds off the bench.

The Mariners used the deep ball to lead 26-2 after 10 minutes. Five of Mitchell's 10 makes in the quarter were from beyond the arc. Stevenson scored 11 of her 18 in the frame.

Dean's defense held Mitchell off the board for the first 7:24 of the second quarter. The Bulldogs outscored the Mariners 9-8 in the stanza, scoring seven points off five Mitchell miscues. Andrewski had six to lead Dean heading into halftime trailing 34-11.

Mitchell responded in the third to not allow a made field goal by Dean, outscoring the home team 20-1. Wiley and Lucas scored seven and six, respectively, to pace the Mariners.

The visitors added to their advantage with an 11-7 margin in the fourth to secure the 65-19 victory. Dean first-year Caitlin Cooper (Amherst, N.H.) scored her first collegiate bucket with 3:02 left in the game.
