Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Edged by Elms, 2-0

FRANKLIN, Mass. – October 7, 2022 – The Dean College field hockey team was edged by Elms College, 2-0, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest at Grant Field Friday afternoon.

Dean (0-11, 0-6 GNAC) returns to action on Tuesday to host Albertus Magnus 3:30 p.m. Elms (2-9, 2-4 GNAC) will host Johnson & Wales on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Elms notched the game's first goal late in the first when graduate student Ellie Serra (Palmer, Mass.) took a reverse shot from the left side. The ball flew into the far corner of the cage with 1:09 on the clock for her first tally of the season.

The Blazers doubled their lead early in the second on first-year Tamara Edwards' (Enfield, Conn.) second goal of the season. Edwards was surrounded by multiple players from both teams in front of the cage when she got her stick on the ball and sent it into the back of the goal.

The third quarter didn't yield many scoring chances as the teams combined for one shot.

The Bulldogs put the pressure on in the fourth quarter, with a 4-1 advantage in shots, but were kept off the scoreboard.

Dean junior goalie Mackenzie Fillion (New Bedford, Mass.) allowed two goals and made two saves. Junior Meredith Landers (Littleton, Mass.) and sophomore Madison Gilbert (Sanbornton, N.H.) each had a defensive save. Elms goalie Kaitlyn Lynes earned the win with 45 minutes of work. Katelyn Volk (Warwick, R.I.) played the final quarter and made a couple of saves.

Elms finished the game with a 10-4 (6-2 on goal) margin in shots and a 5-4 edge in penalty corners.
