FRANKLIN, Mass. - October 22, 2022 - The Dean College Bulldogs women's soccer squad celebrated Senior Day on Grant Field on Saturday, battling the Simmons Sharks to a 4-4 tie in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.
Â
Before the game, Dean honored six seniors for their efforts over the course of their careers. This year's senior class consists of
Alexandra Palacios (Revere, Mass.),
Jazzy Sztyler-Magee (Burlington, Conn.),
Lindsey Adams (Cranston, R.I.),
Elizabeth McGowan (Warwick, R.I.),
Allie Bezio (Wellfleet, Mass.) and team manager
Sarah Graeff.
Â
In a game that featured furious scoring from both squads, Dean raced out to the early advantage. Sztyler-Magee broke through the Sharks' defense in the third minute, sailing a shot into the left side of the net after splitting two defenders to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead.
Less than ten minutes later, Sztyler-Magee struck again, this time off a feed from Adams, putting the Bulldogs on top 2-0. In the 26th minute, Sztyler-Magee recorded another, off a long feed from McGowan.Â
Â
Simmons would not go quietly, however. The visitors answered back with three goals of their own, coming in the 33rd, 37th, and 38th minute to quickly tie the game back up at three and negate the Bulldogs early lead. Goals were scored by Kayla Noonan, Emma McEwan and Izabella Warren.Â
Â
Dean responded to start the second half when Sztyler-Magee broke open for a long pass and was fouled inside the box.
Lea Bettencourt (Peabody, Mass.) drilled the penalty kick into the bottom right corner to give Dean a 4-3 lead early in the second half.
Â
Again, Simmons rallied. Only minutes later, the Sharks tied the score on a goal from Sydney Neumuth, assisted by Warren. From there, the two teams both threatened but neither could break the stalemate for the final 40 minutes of action, and the match ended in 4-4 tie.
          Â
Simmons led 21-10 in total shots and held a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Haley Gaunt (Johnston, R.I.) made nine saves for the Bulldogs while playing all 90 minutes. The hat trick for Sztyler-Magee was her third of the season and second in the last three games. She leads the Bulldogs with 12 goals, tied for fourth best in the GNAC.
          Â
Dean will conclude the regular season when they travel to Regis on Wednesday for a 7:30 start. Simmons will host Emmanuel on Wednesday in their regular season finale.Â
