Sztyler-Magee Nets Hat Trick to Lift Dean Past Norwich, 3-1

FRANKLIN, Mass. – October 16, 2022 - Dean College senior Jazzy Sztyler-Magee (Burlington, Conn,) scored three times to lift the women's soccer team to a 3-1 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory over Norwich on Sunday to wrap up homecoming weekend.

Dean (2-8-3, 1-7-2 GNAC) will host Albertus Magnus on Wednesday at 3 p.m. Norwich (3-10-1, 1-8-1 GNAC) returns home to host Simmons on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Sztyler-Magee notched the game's first goal in the 12th minute after being set up by first-year Emma Toscano's (Fitzwilliam, N.H.) nifty pass from the top of the six-yard box.

Norwich found the equalizer in the 37th minute. Senior Isabel Doherty (Quincy, Mass.) sent a high-bouncing pass over the Dean defenders where sophomore Antonia Pellon (Pownal, Vt.) headed home her second score of the season.

Sztyler-Magee put the Bulldogs back on top in the 59th minute. Sophomore Nina Medeiros (Fairhaven, Mass.) sent a thru ball that split the defenders and reached her sprinting teammate. Sztyler-Magee then separated from the backline for a break-away chance. She slipped the ball past the Norwich keeper for the 2-1 lead.

In the 66th minute, Sztyler-Magee created her own chance when she stepped around a defender and sent a bending ball into the far corner of the net for her second hat trick of the season.

Sophomore Haley Gaunt (Johnston, R.I.) earned the win for the Bulldogs with three saves. Sophomore Rebecca Karis (Fayetteville, N.C.) allowed one goal and made one save in the first half. Freshman Christina Gyda (Fair Oaks, Calif.) was saddled with the loss with two goals allowed and one save in the second half.

Norwich finished the match with a 15-10 edge in shots, but Dean held a 5-4 margin in shots on target. The Cadets had an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks.
