FRANKLIN, Mass. – January 28, 2022 – The Dean College women's basketball team was defeated by Lasell, 65-40, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest in Pieri Gymnasium Friday evening.
Dean drops to 2-8 overall and 0-6 in the conference. The Bulldogs travel to the University of Saint Joseph on Tuesday for a 5 p.m. tip against the Blue Jays. Lasell improves to 7-8 overall and 5-4 in the GNAC standings. The Lasers play at Albertus Magnus on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
First-year
Tori Andrewski (North Sutton, N.H.) posted a double-double of 13 points and 15 rebounds. Junior
Allie Bezio (Wellfleet, Mass.) contributed 10 points, while first-year
Catherine Thomas (Woodbridge, Conn.) scored eight and grabbed five rebounds. First-year
Lena Muraski (Manchester, Conn.) tallied five points and five boards.
Senior Meg Carroll (Douglas, Mass.) led four Lasers in double figures with 14 points to go with eight rebounds. First-years Juju Nealy (Fitchburg, Mass.) and Jasmine DePina (Providence, R.I.) each scored 12 points, while graduate student Peyton Young (Douglas, Mass.) chipped in with 11 off the bench.
Thomas scored the first basket of the game to put Dean on top. She later tied the game at 7-7 with a layup. Lasell then went on a 7-2 run, capped by a pair of Carroll buckets, to put the visitors on top 14-9 with 3:17 left in the first. Andrewski scored two baskets down the stretch for Dean, but Lasell increased its lead to 21-13 after 10 minutes.
In a low scoring second quarter, the Lasers scored all eight of their points in the paint but shot just 21.1% from the field. Dean scored seven points on 3-of-9 shooting to trail 29-20 at the half.
Lasell began the third quarter with nine straight points to take a 38-20 lead before an Andrewski bucket stopped the run. The Bulldogs responded with an 8-3 run over the next five minutes, but Lasell finished the frame with a 5-2 spurt to take a 46-30 lead after 30 minutes.
The Lasers kept up the pressure in the fourth and held a double-digit lead throughout en route to the 65-40 win.
Dean shot 34.8% for the game, while the Lasers were 32.5% from the floor.
