Bulldogs Defeated by MIT on Homecoming

FRANKLIN, Mass. – September 25, 2021– The Dean College football team fell to MIT, 27-0, on a beautiful Saturday afternoon at Dale Lippert Field in front of approximately 2,000 fans as the College celebrated Homecoming Weekend.

Dean falls to 1-3 and will play an Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) opener next Saturday at Gallaudet. MIT improves to 2-1 and will play a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opener next week at Catholic.

Dean quarterback David Curry (Bethlehem, Ga.) finished 14-27 for 157 yards and two interceptions, while adding 31 yards on the ground. Errol Breaux (Baton Rouge, La.) led the Bulldog receivers with 109 yards on six catches.

MIT posted 400 total yards with 336 of them coming on the ground. Senior George Schultz (Frederick, Md.) led all players with 117 rush yards on 18 carries. Sophomore Brady Klein (Washington, Ill.) rushed 10 times for 95 yards and a score. Junior Ashton Robinson (Louisville, Ky.) was next with 62 yards and a touchdown, while junior Jay Theriault (Boxford, Mass.) also found the endzone to go with 46 rushing yards.

Junior linebacker Desmond Dias (Rochester, Mass.) was named the Thomas "Butchie" Williams '75 Homecoming Game Most Valuable Player after registering a game-high 13 tackles, including two for losses. The award is named after a former student-athlete who passed away tragically on Homecoming in 1974 and is handed out annually to the Dean football student-athlete who is selected as to have had the most impact on the contest.

Senior Kordell Scott (Orlando, Fla.) had 12 tackles and a pass break-up, while junior Tyzohn Poole (New Haven, Conn.) was credited with 11 tackles. Sophomore DB Keontay Maxwell (Orlando, Fla.) had a pair of pass break-ups, while freshman Malachi Reeves (Mattapan, Mass.) recorded eight tackles with two for losses.

Senior linebacker Paul Calvetti (Ridgewood, N.J.) led the Engineers with seven tackles and a break-up. Senior Ty Allen (Nashville, Tenn.) and Junior Adam Zimmermann (Houston, Texas) each had an interception.

MIT got on the board with a 35-yard field goal from Mark Wright with 7:09 left in the first quarter.

Five minutes later, the Engineers increased their lead to 10-0 on a 5-yard scamper by Jay Theriault.

Dean tried to respond and was got the ball into MIT territory after a 59-yard reception by Breaux, but MIT came away with a turnover two plays later.

The Engineers took advantage and turned the turnover into seven points with a Brady Klein 5-yard touchdown run.

MIT added a 31-yard field goal from Wright with 3:34 left in the half to take a 20-0 lead into the break.

The visitors tacked on seven more in the third quarter with a touchdown burst from one yard out by Ashton Robinson.

Each team had just two possessions in a fast moving scoreless fourth quarter.
