BRIGHTON, Mass. - September 11, 2021 - The Dean College field hockey team played its first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) game on Saturday at Simmons. The Sharks came away with an 11-1 victory.
Simmons improves to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the GNAC. Dean falls to 0-4 overall and 0-1 in conference action. The Bulldogs host Johnson & Wales next Saturday at noon.
After a scoreless first quarter, Simmons broke through by scoring four times in the second to take a lead into the halftime break. The Sharks doubled their lead with four more goals in the third.
In the fourth, Dean College junior Zoe Coleman (Warwick, R.I.) put the Bulldogs on the board with her first goal of the season.
Simmons outscored Dean 3-1 in the fourth to win 11-1.
Maddie Beckwith and Sydney Gonyea led the Sharks with three goals apiece.
Dean goalie Mackenzie Fillion (New Bedford, Mass.) finished with nine saves. Emma Sheehan played a scoreless 30 minutes in the cage for Simmons, while Sarah Arenberg allowed one goal in 30 minutes.
