Field Hockey Drops GNAC Contest to Johnson & Wales

FRANKLIN, Mass. – September 18, 2021– The Dean College field hockey team was defeated by Johnson & Wales, 10-0, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action Saturday afternoon at Grant Field.

JWU evens its record to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the GNAC. The Wildcats host Manhattanville on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. Dean goes to 0-5 overall and 0-2 in conference play. The Bulldogs host non-conference foe Bridgewater State on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.

The Wildcats scored three times in the first quarter with each goal coming off the stick of senior Jillian Miele (Wilmington, Mass.).

JWU added a pair of scores in the second quarter from Mya Bolk (Raymond, Maine) and Darian Shepherd (West Brookfield, Mass.).

Dean kept fighting in the third, increased its possession and held JWU to five shots in the frame. The Wildcats were able to add a couple of goals to their lead, by Miele and McKayla Weaver (Enfield, Conn.), and take a 7-0 advantage into the fourth quarter.

In the fourth, JWU scored three times with goals from Bolk, Katie Sloan (Ellicott City, Md.) and the first collegiate tally by Isabell O'Hara (Harrisville, R.I.).

Sophomore Mackenzie Fillion (New Bedford, Mass.) recorded 12 saves for the Bulldogs. Madison Flaxington (Lincoln, R.I.) worked the first three quarters, while Jada Johnson (Sayreville, N.J.) played the final 15 minutes to combine for the shutout.
