NEW HAVEN, Conn. - October 16, 2021 - The Dean College women's volleyball team dropped both ends of Saturday's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tri-match hosted by Albertus Magnus Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs fell to Albertus Magnus 3-1 and Norwich 3-0.
The Bulldogs (4-15, 1-8 GNAC) travel to Framingham State on Monday for a 7:15 p.m. first serve.
Albertus Magnus 3, Dean 1 - 25-20, 25-9, 17-25, 25-20
The home team took a 2-0 lead in the match after a close first set win of 25-20 and then a convincing second set win of 25-9. Dean battled back with a strong performance in the third set and won by a 25-17 margin to get back in the match. Janai Price (Providence, R.I.) kill. The Falcons regained control with a 8-4 spurt to make the score 21-12. Dean didn't back down and responded with an 8-3 run, but it was too late as the Falcons closed the match with a Dean service error, 25-20.
First-year
Emily Ball (Feeding Hills, Mass.) led Dean with eight kills. She added seven digs. Price was next with seven kills and three blocks. Senior Amanda Paune (Millis, Mass.) picked up a match best 20 digs. First-year
Lena Muraski (Manchester, Conn.) had a season-high 19 assists to go with six digs and a pair of aces.
The Falcons were paced by Elayna Beutel. She posted 14 kills on .520 hitting and added four blocks. Jaiden Williams guided the offense with 29 assists. She also had 10 digs and five aces. Diana Kalman finished with a team best 19 digs to go with five kills.
Norwich 3, Dean 0 - 25-17, 25-16, 25-17
The Norwich attack carried the Cadets to the sweep. The team hit .277 for the match.
Emily Ball led the Bulldogs for the second time today with six kills and seven digs. Price added four kills, while Payne picked up nine more digs. Muraski finished with 13 assists.
Norwich's Kathryn Farnum led the team with 14 kills on .333 hitting and nine digs. Maggie McNeil contributed 12 kills, while Addison Hall finished with nine on .375 hitting. Sarah Farnum tallied 36 assists in the win.
