Kilpatrick, Lee Help Field Hockey Win First Game of Season Over WestConn, 4-3

FRANKLIN, Mass. – The Dean College field hockey team secured their first win of the season on Tuesday night, taking down Western Connecticut State University in comeback fashion by a final score of 4-3. With the win, the Bulldogs start their year 1-0, while the Wolves drop to 0-1.

How it Happened:
-Junior Emma Gragen (Brattleboro, Vt.) secured Dean's first shot of the year, but it was quickly saved by goalkeeper Brooklyn Testa. First-year Jaidyn Seitzer (Nottingham, N.H.) also registered two shots, with one of them being saved.
-Despite multiple chances for both sides, the first quarter remained quiet at 0-0.
-43 seconds into the second quarter, WestConn's Ellenoire Schoen scored the first goal of the game. Her unassisted effort gave the Wolves the early advantage.
However, her goal would be quickly answered by Dean. First-year Hailey Lamping (Stanfordville, N.Y.) found the back of the net on back-to-back shots. Her first career goal tied the game at 1-1.
33 seconds later, reigning GNAC Tournament MVP Emily Yazzetti (Mahopac, N.Y.) scored her first goal of the year. Dean now had the lead, 2-1, at the end of the first half.
-WestConn bounced back in the third quarter, tying the game again on a goal from Alyssa Montalvo. Jaelyn Moulton added an assist on the goal.
-After the score, Dean charged back into the attacking zone and rattled off four consecutive shots. However, Testa stood tall with three saves to keep the score at a steadfast.
-With less than a minute to play in the third, Moulton broke the tie with a goal of her own. The Wolves now led 3-2 going into the final frame.
-It didn't take long for Dean to tie the game again in the fourth. Emily Kilpatrick (Marion, Mass.) posted the tying goal four minutes into the frame off an assist from defender Kelsey Blair (Carmel, N.Y.).
-Dean retook the lead in the 52nd minute with the eventual go-ahead goal. Katrina Lee (Brookline, N.H.) scored the goal, unassisted, to put Dean in front 4-3.
-Despite two more chances from WestConn, Dean's defense stood tall to secure the 4-3 victory.
