FRANKLIN, Mass. – The Dean College Bulldogs Field Hockey team continued their winning ways, defeating Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) foe Rivier University 4-2 on Saturday at Grant Field. With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 5-1 (1-0 GNAC), while the Raiders drop to 3-4 (0-1 GNAC).
How it Happened:
-After a scoreless first quarter, the Bulldogs struck early in the second frame to take a 1-0 lead, on senior captain Jordan Boelig's (Tilton, N.H.) first goal of the season.
-Moments later, junior standout Emily Yazzetti (Mahopac, N.Y.) evaded multiple defenders to score an unassisted goal, her sixth of the season, giving Dean a 2-0 lead.
-Yazzetti added her second of the game and seventh of the season later in the quarter, sending a rocket into the bottom corner to give Dean a 3-0 lead.
-Late in the second, first-year Mya Dixon (Benton, Maine) corralled a loose ball and finished in traffic to extend the Bulldog lead to 4-0 at the halftime break.
-Both teams battled to a scoreless stalemate in the third quarter, as Dean entered the final period maintaining the 4-0 advantage.
-Rivier broke through for their first goal at the 10 minute mark of the fourth period when Ava Friberg scored unassisted to cut the lead to 4-1.
-The Raiders followed with another goal, three minutes later, when Sophia Quinlan converted a chance off a penalty corner to cut the lead to 4-2 with six minutes to play.
-Time, however, ran out on the Raiders, and the Bulldogs held on the 4-2 conference win.
