Softball Stymied in Rain-Laiden Matchup with Colby-Sawyer, 4-1

FRANKLIN, Mass. – The Dean College softball team was defeated in the opening game of their Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader with Colby-Sawyer College on Wednesday afternoon by a final score of 4-1. Game two of the series was postponed due to rain.
With the loss, Dean drops to 6-11 on the year (3-2 GNAC), while the Chargers grab their first win in program history (1-6, 1-2 GNAC).

How it Happened:
-The Chargers were the first team to score during the top of the second inning. In fact, all four of their runs were scored in this frame. Back-to-back RBIs from Lena Rodrigues and Mikayla Creighton gave them a 2-0 lead. Creighton eventually came around to score on a passed ball, complimented by a score from Larissa Daigle. Heading into the bottom half, the Chargers led 4-0.
-Dean threatened to score in the bottom of the third inning. Emily Yazzetti (Mahopac, N.Y.) singled, followed by Katrina Lee (Brookline, N.H.) reaching on an error. Xandra Silva (New Britain, Conn.) reached on a fielder's choice, loading the bases for Dean.
-However, both Sydnee Ramos (New Bedford, Mass.) and Leah Chamberlain (Burlington, Vt.) were retired, stranding all three Dean runners.
-The game was briefly delayed in the third inning due to rain, but after quick word from the ground crew, play resumed.
-Bryce Degasparre (Attleboro, Mass.) slammed the door on the Chargers throughout the next two innings, allowing just one base and one hit through the stretch.
-However, the clock continued to tick for Dean. They scored their first run in the bottom of the fifth off a sacrifice flyout from Emily Kilpatrick (Marion, Mass.), making it 4-1. However, the rain came back, eventually halting play again.
-Due to rain, the game was canceled in the top of the sixth. Dean fell to the Chargers by a final score of 4-1.

Standouts:
-Kilpatrick (1-2, RBI)
-Degasparre (5.2 IP, 6 Hits, 4 Runs (3 Earned), 3K, 4BB, 28 BF)
