Ostafin Hits 2nd Walk-Off of Season; Softball Splits Wednesday Doubleheader with Curry College

FRANKLIN, Mass. – First-year Nina Ostafin (West Hartford, Conn.) hit her second walk-off of the season to give the Dean College softball team a 9-8 victory in game one of their doubleheader with Curry College. The Bulldogs split the series with Curry and improved to 8-19, while the Colonels shifted to 10-18.
 
GAME ONE: Dean College 9, Curry College 8
-After a scoreless first inning, the Bulldogs struck in the bottom of the second. Ari Amaral (Attleboro, Mass.) reached on an error, allowing Liana Silva (New Britain, Conn.) to round third and score. Shortly after, Maddy Barrette (Hope Valley, R.I.) recorded an RBI.
-Ostafin later stepped up to the plate and drew a walk, bringing in another run. It was now 3-0 Dean after two innings of play.
-Curry scored in both the second and third innings to tie the game at three. This was highlighted by a triple from Isabella Monsanto.
-The Bulldogs boastfully responded in the bottom of the fourth, scoring four runs to take a 7-3 lead. Ostafin cleared the bases with a three-RBI single. Ashlee Mastrodomenico (Middleboro, Mass.) also brought in a run with a hit of her own.
-Curry had their largest scoring inning during the fifth. They clawed their way back with their own quartet of runs, tying the game at 7. Izzy Henderson highlighted the scoring with an RBI double.
-The Colonels scored again in the top of the seventh with an RBI from Karlie Pontas. With just the bottom half remaining, Curry put themselves in position to win the ballgame.
-However, the Bulldogs did not back down. Xandra Silva (New Britain, Conn.) and Emily Kilpatrick (Marion, Mass.) both drew walks, followed by a single from Ramos to load the bases. Ostafin then stepped up and delivered a massive single, scoring two runs to win the game. Ostafin's heroics helped Dean secure the 9-8 win in game one.

GAME TWO: Curry College 4, Dean College 3
-Curry opened game two's scoring in the second inning. Ana Tsonis scored on a wild pitch to give them a 1-0 lead.
-Karlie Pontas then scored for the Colonels in the fourth frame. An RBI double brought in two runs, giving the Colonels a 3-0 advantage.
-The Bulldogs found their answer in the bottom of the fourth inning. Mastrodomenico laced a double into the outfield, allowing Leah Chamberlain (Burlington, Vt.) to come around and score. Dean now trailed by just two runs.
-However, Curry continued to shut down the Bulldogs' attack in the middle frames. Despite landing multiple runners on base, the score remained 3-1 going into the final frame.
-The Colonels scored an insurance run in the top of the seventh. Kailey Collins-Fiore hit an RBI single to make it 4-1.
-Dean made a strong push to tie the game during their final at-bats. X. Silva, Kilpatrick, and Ramos singled to load the bases. However, Amaral grounded into a double play, putting two outs on the board. X. Silva scored on the double play.
-Chamberlain then laced an RBI double into center field, scoring another run. Dean now trailed by one with two outs.
-Despite their best efforts, another groundout gave Curry the win by a final score of 4-3.
