KISSIMMEE, Fla. – After an impressive performance by junior
Bryce DeGasparre (Attleboro, Mass.), the Dean College softball team collected their first win of the season against Mount Saint Mary College by a final score of 7-5 on Monday afternoon.
With the win, the Bulldogs split their pair of Monday contests and improve to 1-4 on the year.
GAME ONE: Anderson University (IN) 7, Dean College 2
-Anderson quickly climbed onto the board with two runs in the first inning. Jayda McKee and Maddie Schoenradt each drove in runs, giving the Ravens a 2-0 advantage.
-After two and a half frames of scoreless action, the Bulldogs cut into the Raven lead.
Liana Silva (New Britain, Conn.) scored on a passed ball, splitting the difference. On the same action,
Xandra Silva (New Britain, Conn.) crossed the plate. Anderson's walk fest allowed Dean to tie the game, 2-2.
-However, the Ravens retaliated by drawing five consecutive runs in the bottom of the fourth. McKee snagged another RBI in Anderson's five-hit frame. They now lead Dean 7-2.
-The Bulldogs' offense tried to spark a comeback in the latter innings, but their efforts were short. Dean registered two hits in the final three innings and fell to Anderson by the final score of 7-2.
GAME TWO: Dean College 7, Mount Saint Mary College 5
-The Bulldogs turned their fortune around in the second game of the afternoon. The team registered seven total hits to rack up seven total runs on the Mount Saint Mary Knights.
-Their scoring fiesta kicked off in the first inning. X. Silva scored once again on a pass ball to bring in the opening run of the game. Shortly after,
Nina Ostafin (West Hartford, Conn.) roped an RBI single into the outfield, scoring

-Dean added their third of the game in the same inning.
Emily Yazzetti (Mahopac, N.Y.) reached on an error in the infield, allowing Ostafin to score. Their first-inning barrage concluded with an RBI single from
Bryce DeGasparre (Attleboro, Mass.). Dean led 4-0 at the end of the first inning.
-In addition to her offensive efforts, DeGasparre also shined within the circle. The junior tossed a complete seven innings, allowing just three earned runs and four strikeouts.
-The Knights added their first score of the game in the third inning. Dana Donnolly scored on an error, cutting the Bulldog lead to three.
-However, Dean responded by added two more runs in the same inning. DeGasparre added her second RBI of the game, followed by another score off a Mount Saint Mary error. At the end of the third, it was 7-1 Dean.
-Over the next four innings, the Knights tried to mount the comeback. They scored four runs, including three in the seventh inning. However, DeGasparre and the Bulldog defense held their ground. They grabbed the final out of the game, with runners on, to secure the 7-5 victory.
