Chicopee, Mass. – The Dean College men's volleyball team fell in both their contests during their Saturday tri-match with Sarah Lawrence College (3-2) and Elms College (3-0). With the pair of losses, the Bulldogs drop to 2-3 on the year.
MATCH ONE: Sarah Lawrence College 3, Dean College 2
-The Bulldogs ultimately fell in one of their closest matches of the season. The match went through all five sets, including three sets decided by four points or less.
-Dean took the first and third sets by a final score of 25-21.
Arthur Felicio (Saugus, Brazil) and
Travis Johnson (Taunton, Mass.) led the attack at the front of net. Each of them recorded consecutive kills to open the sets.
-Libero
Mason Rua (São Pedro do Sul, Portugal) and
Hunter Armitage (Westerly, R.I.) each recorded double-digit DIGs in the match. Armitage also posted an impressive 35 assists.
-After Sarah Lawrence took the second and fourth sets, the match was decided in a sudden-death fifth set. It was also the closet set, with neither side taking a lead larger than three points.
-With the match on the line, Felicio and
Antonio Varela (East Providence, R.I.) recorded stellar points over the front of the net to tie the match at 11.
-However, attack errors ultimately cost Dean the win. Sarah Lawrence scored their final points on errors, taking the set 15-13 and the match 3-2.
MATCH TWO: Elms College 3, Dean College 0
-Errors cost the Bulldogs in the final match of the day. Dean committed 20 total errors, including several errors at the front of the net.
-However, Dean did have 28 total kills in the loss, with a hitting percentage of .086. Varela led the team with 10 kills. Both Felicio and Johnson posted five each.
-Armitage once again had an impressive performance, scoring 25 assists with eight DIGs. Between both matches, Armitage produced a staggering total of 60 assists.
-Elms produced 38 total kills in the match, ultimately paving the way to victory. They won all three sets by scores of 25-20, 25-14, and 25-17.
