Field Hockey Upsets #2 Seed Lasell in GNAC Quarterfinals; Will Face Simmons in Second Round

NEWTON, Mass. – The Dean College field hockey team pulled off an impressive upset on Saturday afternoon. The seven-seeded Bulldogs defeated the two-seeded Lasell University Lasers on the road by a final score of 5-2. With the win, the Bulldogs advance to the semi-final round, scheduled for Wednesday evening.

Notables:
-The Bulldogs get their revenge on Lasell after the Lasers defeated Dean 2-1 in the regular season.
-It's just the second time in program history that the Bulldogs have won a GNAC quarterfinal game, and the first time they've won a postseason game on the road. Their other quarterfinal victory, last season, helped them go all the way to the GNAC championship.
-Dean's five goal total is the second highest they've ever scored in a postseason game, coming one short of their record from last year (6-3 W v. Rivier, 11/1/25).
-The Bulldogs will now travel to six-seeded Simmons University on Wednesday evening, with the semi-final round game scheduled for 6:00PM.

How it Happened:
-Dean wasted little time getting on the scoreboard. Jaidyn Seitzer (Nottingham, N.H.) opened the scoring just 1:17 into the contest, grabbing her first career goal off a pass from Emily Yazzetti (Mahopac, N.Y.).
-One minute later, Emma Gragen (Brattleboro, Vt.) doubled the Bulldogs' advantage with a goal at 2:17, assisted by Emily Kilpatrick (Marion, Mass.), giving Dean an early 2-0 lead.
-Lasell responded in the second quarter behind two goals from Brooklyn Northcutt. Northcutt scored at 16:43 off an assist from Mara Boldy before finding the back of the cage again at 21:52, with Megan Crabtree providing the setup.
-With the game tied at 2-2, Dean continued to pressure the Lasell defense. Hailey Lamping (Stanfordville, N.Y.) broke the deadlock at 28:41, scoring an unassisted goal to send the Bulldogs into halftime with a 3-2 advantage.
-The Bulldogs carried that momentum into the third quarter. Yazzetti extended the lead to 4-2 at 33:00, converting a penalty-corner opportunity off an assist from Kelsey Blair (Carmel, N.Y.). Yazzetti struck again at 44:02, this time finishing a feed from Katrina Lee (Brookline, N.H.) to give Dean a three-goal cushion.
-Dean's defense held Lasell scoreless throughout the second half, preserving the 5-2 victory. Goalkeeper Sara Gardner (Hampstead, Md.) turned aside 10 shots, while the Bulldogs finished with 17 shots, including 14 on goal.
