Kilpatrick Nets Game-Winning OT Goal in Homecoming Victory Over Fitchburg State, 2-1

FRANKLIN, Mass. – Junior Emily Kilpatrick (Marion, Mass.) scored the game winning overtime goal in a 2-1 comeback victory over Fitchburg State University on Thursday afternoon. The goal, which tied Kilpatrick for the team lead at 12, was setup by junior Katrina Lee (Brookline, N.H.) with two minutes remaining in the first overtime period. The win jumped the Bulldogs to 11-7 overall (5-4 GNAC) while the Falcons slipped to 4-11 (2-7 MASCAC).

Notables:
-Junior Goalkeeper Sara Gardner (Hampstead, Md.) recorded her 400th career save with her fourth of the day midway through the third quarter. Gardner, who finished with five, is currently third in total saves throughout the Great Northeast Athletic Conference this year, sitting at 124 on the season.

-Dean remains perfect in overtime on the year, reaching 4-0 when the game is tied at the end of regulation. Their previous wins include a road victory against Plymouth State (7-6, 9/16), and home victories over Simmons (1-0, 10/1), and Nichols (3-2, 10/8).

-The team tied a season-high mark in shots, with 31 taken throughout the game. The Bulldogs previously hit this in a 10-1 victory at Regis College on September 23rd.

How it Happened:
-The Bulldogs and Falcons remained deadlocked through the first quarter and midway through the second before Fitchburg was the first to strike with a goal from Kendall O'Brien. They carried the 1-0 lead into halftime.

-Dean opened the third quarter with a serious offensive attack, registering nine shots through the first four minutes. Kilpatrick, as well as juniors Emma Gragen (Brattleboro, Vt.) and Emily Yazzetti (Mahopac, N.Y.) each registered on a shot on goal during the barrage.

-The Bulldogs continued to attack deep into the fourth quarter before breaking through on a game-tying goal from first-year Hailey Lamping (Stanfordville, N.Y.), assisted by Yazzetti with four minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.

-At the end of regulation, Dean and Fitchburg State remained tied at one, and continued this way into the period. The Bulldogs' offensive drive continued through overtime, keeping the ball at the Falcons' end as Fitchburg State didn't register a shot in the period while Dean had seven.

-Kilpatrick sent the Bulldogs home happy with the overtime winning goal as the clocked wind to under three minutes remaining in the first period, set up off an assist from Lee, who grabbed the rebound from her previous shot seconds earlier.
