Franklin, MA- The Dean College women's soccer team held Elms College to a 0-1 score until the final minutes. However, after a breakout performance from Jamie McDonough, the Bulldogs would ultimately fall by a final score of 0-3. The loss puts Dean at 0-6-0 (0-3-0) while Elms move to 5-2-0 (2-1-0).
How it Happened:
-The Bulldogs offense responded from last weekend and came out aggressive. Dean recorded four shots on the Blazers, one of which inches from crossing the goal line.
Madison Arthur (Winstead, CT) kicked one close, but it was saved by Elms' Sofia Rivers. Miro McIntrye Clere (Sydney, Austrailia) and two others also recorded pressure shots for the Bulldogs.
-However, it would be Elms who ultimately got on the board first. In the tenth minute, Jamie McDonough would score her first of the game, hugging the right post and finding the back of the net. Elms would lead 1-0.
-Dean would continue their barrage of shots. Arthur would add another up close, while
Amelia McQuiggan (Taunton, MA) would have a shot of her own. However, Rivers held strong in-goal, preserving the 1-0 Elms lead at the half.
-Out of the second half, the Bulldogs were back on the attack. Dean would get six more opportunities in front of the goal, including two corner kicks by McQuiggan.
-However, halfway through the 2nd half, Elms would turn the table. The Blazers would have their fair share of opportunities, keeping goalkeeper
Lexi Gerow (Pownal, VT) on her toes.
-After Dean continued to keep the walls closed, Elms finally broke through. McDonough would earn her hat trick in the 81st and 82nd minutes, sealing the 3-0 victory.
