Longmeadow, MA- Junior
Sydnee Ramos (New Bedford, MA) became the first player in program history to reach 100 career hits as the softball team split their double-header with Bay Path University. Dean won the first game 7-5, but dropped game two by a score of 3-2. With the split, the Bulldogs move to 5-11, while the Wildcats move to 9-12.
Game One: Dean College 7, Bay Path University 5
To open the series, the Bulldogs established an early lead in the first inning.
Leah Chamberlain (Burlington, VT) recorded an RBI single, allowing
Xandra Silva (New Britain, CT) to score. Ramos then reached first on an error by the second baseman, allowing Chamberlain to cross the plate.
Liana Silva (New Britain, CT) followed with a triple, bringing Ramos home and giving Dean a strong 3-0 lead.
Bay Path responded with a run in the second inning, but couldn't overcome Dean's consistent offense. Ramos made history to open the second inning, reaching base on a single and recording her 100th career hit. This hit allowed the Bulldogs to add another run and maintain their advantage through the middle hash. Despite Bay Path's efforts, including a four-run surge in the fourth inning, Dean's defense held strong, and they tacked on a final run in the seventh inning. Katrina Lee (Brookline, NH) led the offensive with three hits as Dean ended the game victorious, 7-5.
Game Two: Bay Path University 3, Dean College 2
In game two, Bay Path struck first with an RBI single, driving in a quick run to give the Wildcats the 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs responded in the third inning when
Emily Kilpatrick (Marion, MA) scored an unearned run on a passed ball, leveling the game at 1-1.
Bay Path regained the lead in the third inning. A crucial error by Alyssa Ribarovski (Sydney, Austrailia) allowed the go-ahead run to come across the plate, making it 2-1. The Wildcats added another run in the fourth inning with a sacrifice flyout. Kilpatrick added an RBI in the top of the sixth, but it proved to be not enough. Bay Path's defense held firm, and the game concluded with a 3-2 victory for the Wildcats.
Softball returns home tomorrow afternoon, hosting Fisher College in a 3:00PM and 5:00PM double-header.Â
