Franklin, MA- The Dean College men's volleyball team put up one of their best efforts all season, but ultimately fell short in their final match to Regis College 3-0. With the loss, Dean finishes the year 3-23 (0-14), while the Pride finish 19-11 (7-7).
Prior to the match, the Dean College Department of Athletics and Recreation honored the two seniors on the men's volleyball roster:
Joseph Medeiros (Fairhaven, MA) and
Nunu Coward-Jackson (Fresno, CA). Medeiros also got the start as Dean's libero.Â
Set one was a close battle. After taking the Pride to a decisive two-point play, the Bulldogs ultimately fell 24-26. Noah Allan (Windham, NH) led the team with 9 kills, plus additional blocks at the net. His first block sent the Dean faithful ablaze. This also prompted players such as Hunter Armitage (Westerly, RI) and Arthur Felicio (Saugus, Brazil) to create scoring at the net. Regis' attack held strong, with John Nangle and Brandon Valdes contributing key points. Despite a strong performance, Dean was unable to close the set.
In the second set, Regis took control with a 25-19 victory. The Bulldogs struggled with their offense, as they hit just .120 compared to Regis's .417. Allan continued to lead Dean's offense with 6 kills, but the Bulldogs couldn't overcome the attacking power of Regis, led by Jalen Watt and John Nangle.
Set three saw Regis complete the sweep with a 25-19 win. The highlight of the set was Armitage's first kill. The setter completed a pirouette mid-air, eventually making a behind-the-back play to secure the point.
Armitage, who tallied 20 assists and five digs, led the way offensively the Dean. Allan also had a standout game, recording double-digit digs for the first time since Feburary 11th (v. Fisher). Medeiros matched Armitage in digs, generating five over the course of the three sets. Felicio finished the night with 24 total attacks, leading the team.
