Franklin, MA- The Dean College baseball team dominated in their game one victory versus Norwich University by a final score of 10-2. In the series, the Bulldogs split with the Cadets, falling in game two in a heart-wrenching 4-3 loss. With the split, the Bulldogs end the season with a 6-10 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) record, and move to 11-27 on the season.
Game One: Dean College 10, Norwich University 2
While the Cadets were able to pounce first in the top of the second, the Bulldogs showed mercy and took the reigns. Beginning in the bottom of the third, Dean scored a pair of runs curtesy of a
Nick Amendolara (Bayville, NY) RBI single and
Jadon Murakami (Aiea, HI) scoring on an error. In the next inning, the Bulldogs would explode for five more runs.
Rylan Secovich (Southwick, MA) smashed an RBI triple, scoring
Tyler Giambra (Prospect, CT). Murakami then followed suit, launching a triple of his own. Contributions also included RBIs from Suncar, Giambra, and Amendolara.Â
While Norwich would settle for one more run in the sixth, the Bulldogs would grab one more run in the seventh to seal the win. Suncar would launch his second double of the game, capping off an impressive performance. Starting pitcher
Philip Curran (West Springfield, MA) would get the win on the mound, moving to 4-2 after striking out five batters with one earned run.
Domenic Brazeau (Warwick, RI) would also come in to relieve Curran in game one.Â
Game Two: Norwich University 4, Dean College 3
Unlike game one, the Bulldogs would be the first to strike in the latter ballgame. A pair of runs crossed the plate in the bottom of the first. Suncar would drive his third double of the afternoon, scoring Secovich. Shortly after,
Joey Bossinas (Ossining, NY) would drive-in Suncar with a double of his own. The Bulldogs would score their final run of the game in the second. Secovich would score an RBI single, allowing
Bert Maxim (Teaneck, NJ) to cross the dish.Â
However, after the third inning, Norwich slowly began to crawl back. Starting pitcher
Nick Swain (South Portland, ME) held his own, keeping Norwich to just two runs in the top of the third. The deal-breaker came with one out in the seventh. With the game on the line, Geffen Franus launched a go-ahead, two-run home run, giving Norwich the 4-3 advantage. The Bulldogs, despite having runners on-base, were unable to convert in the bottom half, losing the ballgame 4-3. Giambra was charged with the loss after allowing the homer, while Carson Rath picked up the win for Norwich.
Offensively, Secovich led the way in game two, delivering a 2-4 performance with an RBI and run scored. Four other players recorded one hit each in the ballgame for Dean.
The Bulldogs play in their season finale tomorrow afternoon, hosting Fitchburg State University at 3:30PM.
