Northfield, VT- The Dean College softball team rallied back in game two of their series with Norwich University, winning 7-4. Despite falling in a close 3-2 contest in game one, the Bulldogs' split puts them at 6-17 (1-10) on the year.
Game One: Norwich University 3, Dean College 2
In game one of the series, Norwich would be the ones to pull ahead first. an RBI double by Munson would score the first run of the game in the second frame. However, the Bulldogs would respond two innings later.
Katie Splaine (Tyngsborough, MA) would deliver an RBI single, scoring
Leah Chamberlain (Burlington, VT). Although Dean scored in the top of the fourth, Norwich would respond and score two more runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Despite one more run scored by Dean in the sixth, curtesy of Liana SIlva (New Britain, CT), the Bulldogs would go on to lose by a final score of 3-2.
Bryce DeGasparre (Attleboro, MA) would take the loss for Dean on the mound, falling to 4-8 on the season. Offensively, Splaine and
Sydnee Ramos (New Bedford, MA) would lead the way, recording two hits each. Chamberlain and L. SIlva would also record one hit each.
Game Two: Dean College 7, Norwich University 4
Game two saw similar results in the opener, with Norwich pulling ahead 2-0 in the second inning. However, it would be Dean's turn to open the flood gates, pouring on four runs in the top of the third inning. The party started with an RBI single by
Alyssa Ribarovski (Sydney, Austrailia), followed by another RBI by Ramos. Shortly after, Ari Amarl (Attleboro, MA) roped another RBI base hit, scoring Ribarovski. Dean finalized the rally with another RBI by Splaine.Â
After another run by Norwich in the bottom of the third, Dean turned around and scored two additional runs.
Xandra Silva (New Britain, CT) drilled an RBI into the outfield, followed by another knock by Amaral. With one more run scored in the sixth inning, the Bulldogs would slam the door on Norwich to win by a final score of 7-4.
Natalie Hayes (Brewster, NY) recorded the win in the circle, moving to 2-2 on the year. Offensively, Amaral stood tall, recording a 2-4 day with two RBIs. X. Silva also went 3-5 with an RBI. Ramos and
Emily Kilpatrick (Marion, MA) also recorded two hits each in the second ballgame. As a team, Dean finished with zero errors between both games combined.Â
The Bulldogs return home this Wednesday, April 23rd, in a non-conference series with Vermont State University, Johnson.
