Chicopee, MA- The Dean College women's lacrosse team rolled through Elms College on Wednesday, winning by a final score of 19-4. Dean now moves to 5-4 (2-2) on the season, while Elms drops to 1-5 (1-3).
The Bulldogs took an early lead, scoring four goals in the first six minutes. Natalie Peterson (Hudson, MA) led the charge, netting a hat trick within the first five minutes of play, helping Dean establish a 4-0 lead. Elms responded with two quick goals from Jackie Cronin, but it was clear that Dean's offense was clicking. Nina Medeiros (Fairhaven, MA) scored her first of three goals shortly after.
The second quarter saw more offensive pressure from Dean. Medeiros added another goal to push the lead to 5-2, and Emma Mock (Tunkhannock, MA) followed suit with a goal of her own to extend the Bulldogs' advantage. Allie Stockwell (Burrillville, RI) also got on the score sheet with a well-timed goal off an assist from Caroline Ramsey (Shreveport, LA). Despite a goal from Elms' Greta Frankwicz, Dean's defense and consistent offense kept Elms at bay, with the Bulldogs leading 7-3 at halftime.
After the break, Dean's dominance became even more evident. They outscored Elms 5-0 in the third quarter, thanks to contributions from Peterson, Haley Gaunt (Johnston, RI), and Alisha Caldeira (West Bridgewater, MA). Elms, unable to muster any offensive response, struggled to break through Dean's defense, which remained solid throughout the second half. Dean held a commanding 12-3 lead heading into the final quarter of action.
In the final 15 minutes, Dean continued to press forward, adding four more goals to their tally. With Peterson and Gaunt contributing, and solid contributions from the entire squad, Dean sealed the win with a 19-4 final score.
Peterson led Dean in scoring with seven points (6G, 1A), while Gaunt finished the day with four goals of her own. Four Dean players finished with hat tricks, including three-goal performances from Medeiros and Caldeira. Mock added two goals, and Stockwell finished with one. Shea Cassani (Belgrade, ME) earned another win, making three saves on four shots-on-goal.
The Bulldogs continue their road trip this Saturday, traveling to Mitchell College for another Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest at 11:00AM.
