Franklin, MA- The Dean College baseball team lost momentum in the eighth inning, falling to Bridgewater State University by a final score of 6-3. After Wednesday's game, Dean drops to 1-9 (0-0) on the year, while the Bears move to 4-6 (0-0).
In the opening frame, starter
Spencer Lichstrahl (Fort Lauderdale, FL) got off to an impressive start, striking out the opening batter and securing a double-play shortly after. The Bulldogs then capitalized on offense, securing the opening run after a
Rylan Secovich (Southwick, MA) double and
Nick Amendolara (Bayville, NY) sacrifice fly-out. Dean led BSU after one inning of play.Â
Over the course of the next five innings, Dean and BSU would trade hits offensively. Secovich landed another single, while
Tyler Giambra (Prospect, CT) roped a hit of his own.
Owen Critchley (Dayton, ME) came in to pitch for Lichstrahl in the fourth. After nearly giving up the go-ahead run, Critchley was able to navigate his way through and secure a double-play effort by
Kyler Lorenz (East Providence, RI).Â
Dean would strike again in the bottom of the sixth.
Nathan Suncar (Boston, MA) got the party started with a double down the right field line, allowing Amendolara to advance to third. Amendolara reached base after an error committed by the Bears' infield. This brought up
Joey Bossinas (Ossining, NY), who smacked an RBI single to bring-in both runners. Dean led the Bears 3-1 leading into the seventh.Â
The next two innings would prove to be fatal for the Bulldogs. New relievers Jaden Villalta (Pompton Lakes, NJ) and
Kiefer Culligan (South Windsor, CT) would see a total of five hits, allowing the Bears to score five runs and take the lead in the eighth. Dean also committed several mistakes in the field, furthering BSU's scoring.Â
After a scoreless ninth, Bridgewater State took the game by a final score of 6-3.
Villalta collected the loss for Dean, falling to 0-2 on the season. BSU's Connolly picked up another win, while Reiser picked up the save. Secovich led Dean with a two-hit performance, while three other Bulldogs each landed a hit.Â
Dean returns home this Sunday at 1PM. The team will host Saint Joseph's College of Maine for their Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opener. They travel on the road tomorrow at 3:30 to play Emerson College in Boston, MA.
