Newton, MA- The Dean College women's lacrosse team could not find a way to take down Lasell University on Sunday. The team fell by a final score of 15-4, moving to 3-4 overall and 0-2 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play.
The Bulldogs were kept scoreless in the opening quarter, as Lasell stormed to a commanding 7-0 lead. Despite their best efforts, Dean's offense could not break through the defensive wall that Lasell built, and the Bulldogs found themselves trailing by seven at the end of the first.
Dean managed to get on the scoreboard in the second quarter, with Haley Gaunt (Johnston, RI) and Nina Medeiros (Fairhaven, MA) each scoring a goal. Gaunt's unassisted goal came at the 8:20 mark, while Medeiros capitalized on a pass from Natalie Peterson (Hudson, MA) just 60 seconds later. However, Lasell continued to add to their tally, with Rourke and Ruby Cahill putting the ball in the net to keep the pressure on Dean. At halftime, the score stood at 10-2, leaving the Bulldogs with a steep uphill battle in the second half.
The third quarter saw little change for Dean, as they were held scoreless while Lasell added four more goals. Dean's defense, despite a strong effort, couldn't stop the high-powered Lasell attack. The Bulldogs' chances of a comeback dwindled as the score moved to 14-2.
In the final quarter, Dean added two more goals, with Medeiros and Peterson both finding the back of the net. However, Lasell had already sealed the game with a 15-4 lead.
Women's lacrosse returns to play next Saturday, March 22nd, at 12:00PM. The team will host Regis College on Grant Field in another critical GNAC game.
