Standish, ME- The Dean College Men's Soccer team was defeated in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Quarterfinal Round by Saint Joseph's College of Maine by a final score of 1-3. With the loss, Dean's season comes to an end, while the Monks advance to the Semi-Final Round next week.
How it Happened:
-The Monks would be the first to get an offensive opportunity in the box. Hayes Sweeney pushed it in front of goalkeeper
Jake Godwin (Norwalk, CT), who made a fantastic save.Â
-In the eighth minute, the Bulldogs would turn around and score the match's first goal.
Brody Cook (Syracuse, NY) scored his first career postseason goal, unassisted, to give Dean the early 1-0.Â
-However, the Monks would jump back into the fold shortly after. Zander Haskell would get an unassisted score to tie the match in the 23rd minute.Â
-This wouldn't be the end of Saint Joseph's in the first half. Haskell would do it again in the 42nd minute, making it 2-1 Monks going into the break.Â
-The Bulldogs would remain diligent in the second half, playing consistent defense within their own zone. Saint Joseph's continued their pursuit, though, recording 11 shots in the second half.
-Saint Joseph's would ice the game in the 59 minute. Haskell would get his hat trick, assisted by Nick Marion, to give the Monks the two-goal advantage. They would go to win the Quarterfinal match by a final score of 3-1.
