Nashua, NH- The Dean College Women's Soccer team was defeated by Rivier University on Tuesday night in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play. With the loss, Dean now drops to 2-8-1 (1-5-1 GNAC) on the year, while the Raiders improve to 6-4-2 (5-1-1 GNAC).
How it Happened:
-The Raiders were quick to get on the board in the first half. Leah Morrier scored her eighth of the year, unassisted, to give Rivier the 1-0 advantage.
-Dean would not take long to attempt a response. Junior
Lainey Buffington (Plainfield, CT) would place a strong attempt, but it would sail just high of the goal. Buffington's chance would be the only shot Dean recorded in the first half.
-Three minutes later, Morrier struck again. This time, Bailey Gatchell picked up the assist on the goal. The Raiders led it 2-0 in the tenth minute.
-Rivier would have three more goals in the first half, scored by Bailey Gatchell, Samantha Franks, and Ava Noble.Â
-The second half would see no change in the momentum. Rivier would continue their offensive efforts and eventually take the match 9-0.
-Dean had one more offensive chance in the second half, this time by
Kacie Consolini (Stafford Springs, CT). The forward was able to place the shot on-goal, but it was saved by keeper Olivia Rosario.
-Despite the score, goalkeeper
Lexi Gerow (Pownal, VT) made several strong saves for the Bulldogs. The senior keeper made 15 total saves on the night, tying her second-highest total of the season.
Standouts:
-Consolini (SOG)
-Buffington (Shot)
-Gerow (15 Saves, 9 GA, 90:00 Minutes Played)
