Newton, MA.- After out-scoring Lasell University in the second half, the Dean College men's basketball team could not secure the Tuesday victory, losing 78-87 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play at the Lasell Athletic Center. Dean moves to 12-4 (4-2) on the season, while Lasell advances to 13-4 (6-1).
Within the first four minutes of the game, both the Bulldogs and Lasers were in a close contest.
Frankie Idlett (Miami FL) quickly converted on two free throws, and
Billy Ray Barnes III (Inglewood, CA) scored Dean's first layup.
Christian Yeates (Atlanta, GA) also gave Dean their first lead, going up 6-4 at the 16:11 mark. Lasell quickly responded with baskets from both Karim Belhouchet and Esmar Madesko. After two costly turnovers by Dean, Lasell led 17-10 after ten minutes in the first half.
Ja'maine Davenport (Mays Landing, NJ) converted on a basket shortly afterward. However, scoring halted for nearly two minutes due to fouls and missed free throws from both sides. Dean managed to keep the scoring within four thanks to consecutive defensive rebounds by
Christian Yeates and
Noah Ritchards (Rosenberg, TX). Dean's true troubles ran later in the half. The Bulldogs struggled to convert from the field, making just eight of their 25 attempts. Dean trailed Lasell 28-39 going into halftime.
The offensive struggles continued for Dean to open the second half, allowing Lasell to jump to an early 8-0 run. The Bulldogs' skid came to an end after Franklie Idlett converted on a three-point shot.
Greg Farrow (Milwaukee, WI) picked up the assist on the play. Although the Bulldogs were unable to produce plentiful scoring,
Ja'maine Davenport stepped up in the second half. The senior produced an impressive 17 points and 10 total rebounds. Davenport also led the Bulldogs in entire-game points with 21.
Randy Vasquez (Methuen, MA) also struck iron in the second half, posting four total rebounds and a steal.
In the end, Dean fell to Lasell by a final score of 78-87.
The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday, January 25th at 3:00PM, hosting Norwich University in another GNAC showdown.
