Franklin, MA.- The Dean College women's basketball team fell short versus the Colby-Sawyer Chargers, 58-63 in Saturday's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup in Pieri Gymnasium. The Bulldogs now drop to 5-11 (0-5) on the year, while the Chargers move to 7-9 (1-4).
The first two quarters saw both the Bulldogs and Chargers stay near-even. Dean was able to hold the Charger lead to just one by the end of the first quarter, holding strong momentum heading into the second.
Azaria Landry (Petersburg, VA) got the scoring started for Dean. The sophomore guard scored five points and one steal in the first quarter.
Abi Boutin (Rocky Hill, CT) was right behind, scoring four points. Dean, as a team, out shot Colby-Sawyer from long distance in the first quarter, converting 20% on three points compared to the Chargers' zero.
In the second quarter, the Bulldogs surged into the lead, outscoring Colby-Sawyer 16-11 and carrying a 27-23 going into the locker room.
Abi Boutin scored the most points in the second quarter (6), with Landry producing five, and
Tori Viau (Johnston, RI) scoring three. Dean also out-shot the Chargers from the field, 35-27 percent.Â
Colby-Sawyer would turn their efforts around in the third quarter, cutting the Dean lead to five points. Landry would produce six more points, leading the Bulldogs in this quarter. Elyza Mitchell of Colby-Sawyer led the way for the Chargers, matching Landry's six points in the third.Â
The fourth and final quarter would be the ultimate test for Dean. However, the Chargers' 23 fourth-quarter points would push them on-top, winning 63-58.
Azaria Landry would score four more points before fouling-out, with
Maranda Cournoyer (Millville, MA) producing the same number. Landry would finish the night with an impressive 20 points, her second-highest in a Dean uniform.Â
The Bulldogs are back in action on Tuesday night, traveling on the road to face Lasell University in more GNAC action.Â
