Men's Volleyball Shows Resilient Effort, But Falls Short in Season-Opening Tri-Match

Milton, MA.- The Dean College men's volleyball team put on a clinic in Saturday afternoon's tri-match, but ultimately fell in both contests 0-3 (vs. Saint Lawrence) and 1-3 (vs. Curry). Dean now falls to 0-2 to begin the season.

In their first match versus Saint Lawrence College, the Bulldogs displayed some spectacular numbers. Dean kept each set to within less than 10 points, including a third set which was only seperated by three. The pack was led by junior specialist Hunter Armitage (Westerly, RI). Armitage posted a total of eight digs, eight assists, and two total kills. Meanwhile, first-year Hayson Shing (Hong Kong) shined in his Dean College debut. The hitter posted 11 total kills, including three assists and six digs. Despite these efforts, Dean ultimately fell in the match, 0-3.

The second match brought different fortunes for the Bulldogs. Dean came out of the gate swinging, winning a close opening set by a score of 25-22. After losing the first two points, the Bulldogs proceeded to score four straight points. This included a service ace by Armitage, plus multiple attack errors by Curry. Dean then went on to win another three straight points at the end of set, scored by Armitage and Noah Allen (Windham, NH).

Despite a valiant effort in the first set, Dean then went on to drop the next three sets and lose the match by a final score of 1-3. Hayson Shing, Mason Rua (Sao Paulo do Sul, Portugal), and Arthur Felicio (Saugus, Brazil), all posted five digs each. Noah Allen led the way on attack for Dean, posting an impressive 14 kills in his Dean debut. Allen also recorded the most points for Dean with 20.

The Bulldogs return to action on Tuesday, playing in their home-opener versus M.I.T at 6:00 PM inside of Pieri Gymnasium.
