WENHAM, Mass.- First-year
Emma Gragen (Brattleboro, Vt.) erupted for two goals and the Dean College Bulldogs field hockey team cruised to a 4-1 victory over Gordon College in non-conference action at Brigham Complex on Thursday. The win improves the Bulldogs record to 5-5, while the loss drops Gordon to 0-9.
Dean scored first, three minutes into the game. when Gragen deposited her third goal of the season into the net unassisted. The action remained scoreless throughout the rest of the first-half. Dean led 8-2 in shots at halftime and had a 2-0 lead in penalty corners.
The Bulldogs put the pressure on in the third quarter and were able to extend their lead. Outshooting the Scots 10-0 in the frame, Dean poured on two more goals, one from senior
Madison Gilbert (Sanbornton, N.H.) and one from senior
Sydnee Ramos (New Bedford, Mass.). The goal was Gilbert's first of her career, assisted by Ramos. Ramos goal, unassisted, was her second of the season.
At the start of the fourth, Gragen found the back of the next again, this time unassisted to extend the lead to 4-0. Gordon tacked on a goal late to cut into the lead, but could not complete the comeback and the Bulldogs held for a 4-1 victory.
Dean outshot the Scots 26-2 and held a 9-0 advantage in penalty corners.
Next up for the Bulldogs, after an off-weekend, a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup with Johnson & Wales on Wednesday October 2nd, in Providence R.I. at 4:00 p.m.
