Franklin, Mass.- On a rain soaked Lippert Field at Longley Athletic Complex, the Dean College Bulldogs fell to the visiting Curry College Colonels, 50-0 on Saturday in non-league action. The loss drops the Bulldogs to 0-2, while Curry improves to 1-1.
Despite an opportunistic defense that caused three interceptions, returning them for a total of 42 yards, the Bulldogs were unable to stop the balanced assault from the Colonels, and dropped their second home game of the season.
Curry scored their first touchdown on the opening drive of the game, when tailback
Montie Quinn darted around the corner for a 16 yard touchdown to put Curry up 7-0. Next, a promising possession for the Bulldogs faltered, and ended with a Dean punt. Curry responded with a ten play drive capped by a nine yard touchdown pass from
Michael Moriarty to
Colin Ridley on third and goal to extend the Colonels lead to 14-0.
The second quarter remained scoreless for much of the frame, due to effective defense from the Bulldog squad. Sophomore
Isaac Dorlean (Miramar, Fla.) stepped in front of an out route thrown by Moriarty and picked off the pass, racing 36 yards down the sideline to set the Bulldogs up in their best field position of the day. Penalties, a problem for both teams in this rainy battle, doomed the possession and the Bulldogs were forced to punt. Late in the second quarter, Dean held the Colonels on a 3rd and long, forcing a punt with two and a half minutes to play. The Colonel punt tipped off the fingers of the Dean returner and was recovered by Curry, setting up the visitors inside the red zone. On the ensuing play, Moriarty lofted a pass to the back left corner of the endzone and found
Jaden Doman for a 14 yard touchdown. Curry entered the halftime break up 21-0.
Dean received the second half kickoff and quickly went three-and-out. After a punt, Moriarty unleashed a bullet on a post route to
Matthew Bowen, finding him in stride for a 45 yard touchdown three minutes into the third period. Curry would add to their lead with a safety and two more touchdown runs in the third, one from from Quinn and one from Jordan Depina. In the fourth, they tacked on a final score on a touchdown reception from
 Patrick Leary thrown by
Hunter Agosti. Kicker
Omar Aboutoui was 6-7 on extra points.
Dean was led by first-year
Brayden Prasse (San Antonio, Texas), who finished with 49 yards rushing on 14 carries. First-year
Tahir Blanding (East Orange, N.J.) had two catches for 25 yards. On defense Dorlean had two interceptions, while senior
Darren Appiah (Worcester, Mass.) added one of his own in addition to his six tackles. First-year
Elijah Walker (Upper Marlboro, Md.) tied for the team-high with six tackles, while also adding a sack. Senior
Joe Penton (Manassas Park, Va.) and first-year
Syncere Bailey (Dover, N.H.) both contributed five tackles.
Next up for Dean is another home contest next Saturday against Nichols College at 12:00 p.m.
