FRANKLIN, Mass. – April 24, 2024 – The Dean College softball team was defeated by Bay Path 5-0 and 3-2 in a Wednesday doubleheader at the Longley Athletic Complex.
Dean (1-25) hosts Fisher for a doubleheader tomorrow at 3 p.m. Bay Path (18-15) travels to Southern Maine CC on Saturday.
GAME ONE – Bay Path 5, Dean 0
After a scoreless first inning, Bay Path put a run on the board in the second on a sacrifice fly by Madisyn Vera (East Hartford, Conn.)
Bay Path doubled the lead in the sixth with another sac fly, this time by Madison Sunderland (Ludlow, Mass.).
The Wildcats added three runs in the seventh to secure the 5-0 win. Grace Ramsey (Ault, Colo.) drew a bases loaded walk and then Sunderland knocked in a pair with a single to left.
Sunderland finished the game with three RBIs and also threw a complete game shutout with seven strikeouts.
Senior
Meredith Landers (Littleton, Mass.) and sophomore
Xandra Silva (New Britain, Conn.) each had a hit for the Bulldogs.
GAME TWO – Bay Path 3, Dean 2
The Wildcats scored twice in their first at-bat on a 2-run triple by Caroline Austin (West Hartford, Conn.).
Bay Path added another run in the third on an RBI single by Austin for a 3-0 lead.
The Bulldogs cut into the deficit with a run in the bottom of the third. Senior
Jilian Glynn (Londonderry, N.H.) doubled home
Xandra Silva.
Dean continued to battle and pulled within a run in the bottom of the seventh, but Sunderland shut the door to secure the 3-2 win for Bay Path. Sophomore
Liana Silva (New Britain, Conn.) singled home
Sydnee Ramos (New Bedford, Mass.) with the team's second run.
First-year
Bryce DeGasparre (Attleboro, Mass.) struck out seven in a complete game for the Bulldogs.
Junior
Jessica Stewart (Banks, Ore.) led the Dean hitters with a pair of knocks.
