Softball Drops Two On Senior Day

FRANKLIN, Mass. – April 21, 2024 – The Dean College softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader against the University of Saint Joseph on Saturday, falling 16-4 and 3-1 in the two contests. Before the games, Dean honored four team members, IF/OF Meredith Landers (Littleton, Mass.), OF Madison Mayo (North Attleboro, Mass.) OF Mackenzie Mayo (North Attleboro, Mass.), P/OF Jilian Glynn (Londonderry, N.H.), and team manager Anna Weidman, for senior day.

Dean (1-23, 1-11 GNAC) is back at it on Wednesday with a doubleheader against Bay Path at Longley Field, starting at 3:00 p.m.

GAME ONE – USJ 16, Dean 4

The Bulldogs fell behind in the opening frame, when USJ pushed across two runs in the first on two RBI hits. The Blue Jays added to their lead in the second, piling on five runs to take a 7-0 lead into the third inning.

USJ extended their lead to 8-0 in the top of the third but Dean responded in the bottom half of the inning, scoring three runs on an RBI triple from Leah Chamberlain (Burlington, Vt.), an RBI double from Liana Silva (New Britain, Conn.) , and an RBI single from Meredith Landers

The visitors broke the game open in the top of the fourth, scoring five more runs to put the game out of reach.

GAME TWO – USJ 3, Dean 1
First year Bryce DeGasparre (Attleboro, Mass.) pitched a complete game gem in the second round of the double-header, dealing seven innings and four hits and only one earned run. The Bulldogs could only plate one run however, and fell 3-1. USJ scored first, with two unearned runs in the first inning after throwing errors by the Bulldogs. Dean responded in the bottom of the first with a run of their own, when Chamberlain drove in Sydnee Ramos (New Bedford, Mass.) .

After the first inning, DeGasparre cruised, striking out four and keeping the USJ bats grounded. The game was scoreless from the second inning until the top of the seventh, when the Blue Jays added an insurance run with a runner scoring on a wild pitch.

Dean had a chance in the seventh with the tying run at the plate, but couldn't extend the rally.
