Softball Earns Split at Elms

CHICOPEE, Mass. – April 20, 2024 – The Dean College softball team earned a split at Elms in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader Saturday afternoon. Dean won game one 8-5 before dropping game two 3-2.

Dean (1-21, 1-9 GNAC) is scheduled to celebrate senior day at home tomorrow against the University of Saint Joseph. Elms (4-24, 1-9 GNAC) travels to Johnson & Wales tomorrow for a doubleheader starting at noon.

GAME ONE – Dean 8, Elms 5

Elms opened the scoring with a run in the first on an RBI single by Josie Cammarata.

Dean put three across in the third on RBI hits from sophomore Liana Silva (New Britain, Conn.), senior Jilian Glynn (Londonderry, N.H.) and junior Alyssa Ribarovski (Sydney, Australia).

The Blazers cut the deficit in half with a sac fly in the bottom of the third.

The Bulldogs went in front 5-2 with two unearned runs in the sixth.

In the seventh, Dean created separation with three more runs for an 8-2 advantage. Sophomore Leah Chamberlain (Burlington, Vt.) knocked in a run with a single.

Elms did not go quietly as the tying run came to the plate in the bottom of the seventh, but junior Jessica Stewart (Banks, Ore.) induced a groundout to end the threat and the game, 8-5.

Chamberlain went 4-for-5 with two RBIs to lead Dean. Ribarovski finished 3-for-4, while sophomore Sydnee Ramos (New Bedford, Mass.) and senior Meredith Landers (Littleton, Mass.) also had two hits.

Glynn earned the win after four innings of work with three strikeouts.

GAME TWO – Elms 3, Dean 2

After three scoreless innings to begin game two, Dean sophomore Xandra Silva (New Britain, Conn.) scored on a wild pitch shortly after leading off the fourth with a triple. Chamberlain later scored on an error to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead. Ribarovski was credited with an RBI on the play.

Elms got on the board with three runs in the fifth for a 3-2 advantage and hung on for the win.
