Bulldogs Sail Past Rhode Island College in Season Opener

FRANKLIN, Mass. – March 5, 2024 – The Dean College women's lacrosse team sailed past Rhode Island College (RIC), 20-4, in Tuesday's season opener for the Bulldogs.

Today's game was also head coach Justin Dionne's debut and first victory.

Dean (1-0) continues a 4-game homestand on Thursday with a 3 p.m. game against Nichols. RIC (0-2) travels to Curry on Thursday.  

Junior Natalie Peterson (Hudson, Mass.) came away with eight points on six goals and two assists to pace the Bulldogs. Junior Haley Gaunt (Johnston, R.I.) was next with seven points on six goals and an assist. Sophomore Emma Mock (Tunkhannock, Pa.) posted five goals and an assist in her debut. Junior Nina Medeiros (Fairhaven, Mass.) contributed 14 draw controls, a goal, an assist and three ground balls.

Sophie DeFlitch (Hummelstown, Pa.) led RIC with a couple of goals. Hannah Marley (Tiverton, R.I.) contributed a goal and four draw controls.

Dean goalie Allie Stockwell (Burrillville, R.I.) collected nine saves to earn the victory. Giana Franco (Salem, Conn.) finished with nine saves for the Anchorwomen.

The visitors opened the scoring with a goal by DeFlitch 5:49 into the contest. Dean then took control and ended the first quarter with a 7-2 lead. First-year Caroline Ramsey (Shreveport, La.) notched her first collegiate tally for the Bulldogs in the frame.

Dean built on its lead by outscoring RIC 6-0 in the second quarter for a 13-2 lead at the half. Mock and Peterson each had three goals in the quarter.

Gaunt scored three times, while Peterson added another as the Bulldogs increased their lead to 17-2 after 45 minutes.

In the final quarter, Dean received goals from Peterson, Mock and Gaunt. RIC scored twice with tallies from Marley and Nicolle Rosales (New Bedford, Mass.) to make the final 20-4 in favor of the home team.
