FRANKLIN, Mass.- The Dean College Bulldogs men's basketball team appeared to be in mid-season form for Saturday's season opener. rattling off a 52 point victory over visiting University of Maine at Augusta, 110-58. Dean was powered by a balanced attack, with 17 different players recording at least two points.
The Bulldogs had a ten point lead halfway through the first half, before finding a new gear. Two three pointers from junior
Christian Yeates (Atlanta, Ga.) capped a run that extended the hosts lead to 40-20 with six minutes to play in the half. Four minutes later, a Yeates jumper extended the Bulldogs advantage to 31 at 52-32. With under a minute to play in the half, a three pointer from
Ja'maine Davenport (Mays Landing, N.J.) gave the Bulldogs 62 points, and they closed the half with a 62-30 lead.
In the second half, Dean extended their advantage, with a three pointer form
Harlan Nichols (Las Vegas, Nev.) pushing the Bulldog edge to 78-37. Later, a steal from
Quinten Jones (Winchester, Va.) led to a layup from
John McClaren (Bridgewater, Mass.) to give the Bulldogs a 91-45 lead, and Dean cruised from there to a 110-58 final.
Yeates led the Bulldogs with 18 points.
Frankie Idlett (Miami, Fla.) and
Billy Ray Barnes III (Carson, Calif.) both missed a double-double by one tally, with Idlett scoring 16 and adding nine boards, and Barnes registering 10 rebounds and nine points.
Dean (1-0) is back in action on Monday when they host New England College at 4 p.m.
