WASHINGTON, D.C.- The Dean College Bulldogs fell to Gallaudet University 37-15 in the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) Consolation game (#3 vs. #4) on Saturday at Hotchkiss Field. The loss drops Dean to 0-9 for the season, while Gallaudet finishes the year at 5-4.
Dean could not have started the game off better. On the opening kickoff, running back Bryaden Prasse ( San Antionio, Texas) fielded the ball, broke a few tackles, and raced around the egde, returning the kickoff 76 yards for the touchdown. The score was Dean's second special teams touchdown of the year after
Christian Donalson's (San Antionio, Texas) punt return score two weeks ago, also against Gallaudet.
The Bison answered back immediately, however, scoring a touchdown on their first play from scrimmage on 53 yard pass Trevin Adams to Zack Parsons. Gallaudet converted the PAT to take a 7-6 lead, a score that held until late in the second quarter when the Bulldogs converted a huge takeaway into points. With Gallaudet driving into Dean territory,
Joe Penton (Manassas Park, Va.) recovered a Bison fumble, racing 56 yards to the Gallaudet 3 yard line. Two players later,
Josiah Morales (Bridgeport, Conn.) punched it in for the touchdown to give Dean a 12-7 lead. After multiple penalties wiped out Dean's initial two-point conversion, the Bulldogs eventually failed the PAT, keeping the 12-7 advantage. Gallaudet responded two minutes later, scoring on an 18 yard touchdown pass from Trevin Adams to Brandon Washington to take 14-12 lead into the halftime break.
After ten scoreless minutes in the third quarter, Gallaudet broke through for another score, this time a Kylar Sicoli two yard run to increase their advantage to 21-12. The Bulldogs mounted a nine play 50 yard drive in response, driving to the Gallaudet seven yard line before settling for a 24 yard field goal from
Griffin Sullivan (Colchester, Conn.) to cut the deficit to 21-15.
Gallaudet stepped on the gas in the fourth quarter, scoring two touchdowns, both on Washington runs, to take control of the game. The first touchdown came at the start the period, 22 yard run that capped a three play, 52 yard series. Ten minutes later, Washington punctuated an eight play, 55 yard drive with a four yard run to seal the game 37-15.
Morales finished 8-21 for 73 yards, while senior
Jalen Smith (San Francisco, Calif.) led the Bulldogs with 30 yards on four catches. First-year
Syncere Bailey (Dover, N.H.) led the Bulldogs with nine tackles.
Isaac Dorlean (Miramar, Fla.) and
Jerney Price (San Antonio, Texas.) both finished with eight tackles. Donalson added seven tackles and a sack, while senior
Darren Appiah (Worcester, Mass.) had four tackles and an interception.
