Fireworks Late Help Bulldogs Rally For a Draw at Lasell, 3-3

Waltham, Mass.- The Dean College Bulldogs scored three goals in the final fifteen minutes, erasing a three goal deficit to rally for a 3-3 draw against Lasell in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup on Monday.

Junior Jake Richard (Townsend, Mass.) scored one goal and assisted on another, helping the Bulldogs to come from behind and earn an important result in a conference battle. Lasell struck first, scoring in the 17th minute on a goal from Antonio Calabrese, unassisted.  The Lasers added on two more, both at the beginning of the second half, one from Dillon Winklemann, and one from Mpumelelo Maphumulo to extend their lead to 3-0.

Dean caught fire in the final fifteen minutes of the game. First, in the 74th minute, sophomore Ciaran Phibbs (Yonkers, N.Y.) scored his first career goal, unassisted to put the Bulldogs back in the game. Minutes later, Richard fielded a pass from first-year Walbee Pierre (Salem, Mass.) just outside the goal mouth and poked it past the keeper for his fourth goal of the season. Junior Chris Tunley (Las Vegas, Nev.) brought the Bulldogs all the way back to even, scoring in the 87th minute off a feed from Richard, his fourth goal of the season, as well. Chances by both teams in the closing minutes failed to produce a game-winning goal and the match ended in a 3-3 draw.

Richard and Tunley's four goals are tied for the team lead. Pierri and Phibbs both had firsts of their career, with Phibbs scoring his first goal and Pierre registering his first collegiate point. First-year Logan Casella (South Plainfield, N.J.) started his second game in a row in the goal, making six saves and allowing three goals in 90 minutes of action.

Lasell maintained a 17-13 lead in shots although it was sharply divided between halves. The Lasers outshot Dean 13-5 in the first half, but the Bulldogs held an 8-4 advantage in the second. Dean held a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.

The game, rescheduled from September 21st due to weather, was moved to Brandeis University in Waltham, Mass. due to field conditions at Lasell. Dean (2-7-1, 1-5-1 GNAC) hosts Norwich on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m., while Lasell (1-7-3, 1-3-3 GNAC) travels on Wednesday to Regis.
