Women's Soccer Falls to JWU in GNAC Play

FRANKLIN, Mass.- The Dean College Bulldogs fell to Johnson & Wales, 8-1 on Wednesday in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at Grant Field. Dean drops to 2-8-3 (1-7-3 GNAC) while the Wildcats improve to 13-3 and a league best 11-0 in the GNAC.

JWU took an early lead nine minutes into the action when Grace Sheehan scored off an assist from Sophia Warburton. Twelve minutes later, Angelina Oliveira scored the first of her three goals on the day to give the Wildcats a 2-0 lead. The visitors pounced again three minutes later scoring on a goal from Rowan Garr, assisted by Katherine Dufour, to take a 3-0 lead into the halftime break.

JWU outshot Dean 20-1 in the first half, with the lone Dean chance, a breakaway from Katie Consolini (Stafford Springs,Conn,) sailing just over the crossbar. Haley Gaunt (Johnston, R.I.) played the first 45 minutes in the goal for the Bulldogs, allowing three goals but stopping 14 shots.

In the first ten minutes of the second half, Oliveira added two more goals, sandwiched around a goal from Marisa Krosky to put the game out of reach. JWU tacked on two more late for their eight goal final tally.

In the closing minutes, the Bulldogs were awarded a penalty kick after a foul in the box. Senior midfielder Nina Medeiros (Fairhaven, Mass.) stepped up to the line and buried the shot into the bottom right hand corner for her first goal of the season and sixth of her career.

JWU owned a 24-2 advantage in second half shots, as well as a 6-0 edge in corner kicks. Junior goalie Lexi Gerow (Pownal, Vt.) played the second half and made ten stops while allowing five goals.
