FRANKLIN, Mass. – January 2, 2024 – The Dean College women's basketball team fell to the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA), 45-27, in non-conference action Tuesday night.
Dean (1-9) continues a busy stretch to start the New Year with a 4 p.m. home game on Thursday against Lesley. MCLA (3-9) has a quick turnaround with a 5 p.m. home contest tomorrow against Fitchburg State.
Senior
Cat Thomas (Woodbridge, Conn.) and first-year
Makayla Swan (Middlebury, Vt.) each had six points to lead the Dean scorers. Thomas added nine rebounds and a couple of steals. First-year
Kendrah Doane (New Salem, Mass.) finished with a game and season best 12 rebounds.
MCLA received a 16-point, 11-rebound double-double from sophomore Kristie Zator (Windham, Conn.). First-year Eva Eberwein (Dalton, Mass.) also reached double figures with 11 points.
1st Quarter
- Zator scored 10 points as MCLA outscored Dean 17-2.
- Four Bulldogs had two rebounds apiece.
- First-year Abi Boutin (Rocky Hill, Conn.) had two points and two rebounds for Dean.
2nd Quarter
- The Trailblazers increased their lead to 33-11 at the half.
- Zator added six more points for the visitors.
- Swan and junior Maranda Cournoyer (Millville, Mass.) each scored four points for the Bulldogs.
3rd Quarter
- Thomas scored six points to lead all players in the third.
- MCLA finished the frame with an 11-6 edge on the scoreboard.
4th Quarter
- Dean outscored MCLA 10-1 in the final frame, holding the visitors without a made field goal.
- Doane scored five points to lead all players.
