FRANKLIN, Mass. – September 6, 2023 – The Dean College field hockey team dropped its home opener to Bridgewater State, 4-0, on a hot Wednesday afternoon at Grant Field.

Dean (0-3) hosts Colby-Sawyer on Friday at 4 p.m. for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opener. Bridgewater State (1-1) travels to Eastern Connecticut State on Saturday for a 1 p.m. contest with the Warriors.

The Bears scored 12 minutes into the contest when Brianna Gagnon (Tewksbury, Mass.) finished a feed from first-year Madison Ellis (Attleboro, Mass.).

The visitors doubled the lead with a goal by senior Zoe Bergeron (Blackstone, Mass.) midway through the second quarter. Ellis picked up her second assist of the game.

In the third, Ellis found the back of the cage before assisting on another goal by Gagnon to make the score 4-0.

Dean senior goalie Mackenzie Fillion (New Bedford, Mass.) made 12 saves, while sophomore Emma Mock (Tunkhannock, Pa.) came away with a defensive save, the second of her career.

First-year Kailey Hutchinson (Attleboro, Mass.) worked the first half and made one save, while sophomore Catherine Douglas (Marshfield, Mass.) did not face a shot in the final two quarters.
