FRANKLIN, Mass. – September 14, 2023 – The Dean College women's soccer team was edged by Elms, 1-0, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match at Grant Field on Thursday afternoon.
The Bulldogs (3-2, 2-1 GNAC) will play their first road game of the year on Saturday with a noon start at Lasell (3-2, 2-1 GNAC). Elms (3-2, 2-1 GNAC) returns home on Saturday to host newest GNAC member New England College (0-4-1, 0-3 GNAC) at 1 p.m.
The Blazers had the edge in possession in the first half with an 11-5 advantage in shots. In the 28th minute, sophomore Jamie McDonough (Dedham, Mass.) beat the oncoming keeper into the back of the net for the lone goal of the game. Junior Kelly Malheiro (Centereach, N.Y.) set up the chance with a pass that split a couple of Dean defenders.
The Bulldogs had a late chance near the end of regulation but could not convert as Elms hung on for the 1-0 victory.

Haley Gaunt (Johnston, R.I.) finished with a season-high 15 saves for Dean. Senior Gianna Liquori (East Longmeadow, Mass.) made two saves in preserving the shutout.
Elms ended the contest with a 26-7 margin in shots.
