SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – September 12, 2023 – The Dean College women's volleyball team dropped a non-conference match at Mount Holyoke on Tuesday night by scores of 25-21, 25-18 and 25-18.
Dean (1-6) will play its first home match of the season on Thursday with a 6 p.m. first serve against Suffolk (3-5). Mount Holyoke (4-2) plays UMass Boston on Friday.
Senior
Sari Albury (Nassau, Bahamas) had a team best five kills to go with five digs. Junior
Emily Larouche (Agawam, Mass.) recorded a career-high 14 digs to go with four kills. Senior setter
Bella Driscoll (Plymouth, Mass.) finished with 13 assists, nine digs and a block. Sophomore
Skylar Raskevitz (Easthampton, Mass.) also reached double figures in digs with 10.
The Lyons raced out to a 6-2 lead, but Dean battled back to tie the score at 7-7. The home team later used an 8-2 run to create separation at 20-13. The Bulldogs didn't go quietly as they rattled off five straight points, capped by a Larouche kill, to pull within 22-20. The Lyons were able to hold on with a couple of kills down the stretch for the 25-21 victory.
Mount Holyoke got off to another strong start for a 9-3 lead. A 5-2 spurt by the Bulldogs kept the set close, but the Lyons tallied 14 kills in the frame to secure the 25-18 win.
In the third, Dean started with a 6-2 run that was answered by four straight from the Lyons to tie the set. Another 6-2 run gave the visitors a 12-8 lead. Mount Holyoke responded once again for five points and a 13-12 lead. Albury then had a couple of kills in a 5-1 run for the Bulldogs and a 17-14 advantage. The Lyons turned things around and went on an 11-1 run to close the set and the match.
