Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Edged by Saint Joseph's, 3-0

FRANKLIN, Mass. – September 12, 2023 – The Dean College field hockey team fell to Saint Joseph's College of Maine, 3-0, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest on Tuesday at Grant Field.

The Bulldogs dedicated today's game to Morgan's Message, which recognizes the life and legacy of Morgan Rodgers who died tragically in July 2019 after battling mental health struggles.

Dean (0-5, 0-2 GNAC) travels to Sage on Thursday for a 6 p.m. game with the Gators. Saint Joseph's (2-3, 2-0 GNAC) returns home on Saturday to host Anna Maria at noon.

The Monks got on the board 4:16 into the contest on sophomore Maya Waryas' (Bellows Falls, Vt.) first goal of the season. Junior Abbie Jacques (Mount Vernon, Maine) began the opportunity with a shot on target that was saved by the Dean goalie. After the ball came loose, Waryas was there to finish the job and give Saint Joseph's the lead.

Less than three minutes into the second quarter, Waryas kept the pressure on as she got a couple of shots off in close. Her first attempt was saved, but the ball found her stick and she struck the rebound into the back of the cage for the 2-0 lead.

Waryas notched the hat trick with a score with 1:59 left to play in the third frame. She broke away from the Dean defenders to go 1-on-1 with the goalie. From a tough angle on the right, Waryas was able to score in the far left corner of the goal for the 3-0 advantage.

Dean senior goalie Mackenzie Fillion (New Bedford, Mass.) had six saves for the Bulldogs. Junior Kassidy Collins (Pittston, Maine) played the first three quarters, while first-year Kim McLaughlin (Lewiston, Maine) played the final 15 minutes for the Monks.
