BOSTON, Mass. – April 8, 2023 – The Dean College women's lacrosse team was defeated by Emmanuel, 18-10, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action Saturday afternoon.
Dean (5-6, 4-4 GNAC) returns home to host Saint Joseph on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. Emmanuel (9-3, 6-2 GNAC) plays at Simmons on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Senior
Maire Brown (Huntington, N.Y.) led Dean with five points on four goals and an assist. She also had 11 draw controls. Senior
Jazzy Sztyler-Magee (Burlington, Conn.) also scored four times.
Rachel Canedy and Deja Srimouksavanh led the Saints with three goals and an assist apiece. Livia Fedele contributed a goal and three assists.
First-year goalie
Allie Stockwell (Burrillville, R.I.) made 15 saves in the loss. Isabella Thomas picked up the win for the Saints with nine saves and two goals allowed in the first half. Gabriela Serra worked the second half and allowed eight goals with eight saves.
The Saints began the game with five unanswered goals in the first quarter, including a couple by Canedy.
Brown put the Bulldogs on the board with a goal less than a minute into the second. Emmanuel answered with a couple before Sztyler-Magee made the score 7-2. The Saints responded once again to add five more goals to their total for a 12-2 advantage at the half.
Dean opened the second half with a goal by Brown. After a goal by Emmanuel made the score 13-3, Brown and Sztyler-Magee scored for the Bulldogs to cut the deficit to 13-5 heading into the final quarter.
The visitors carried the momentum into the fourth by scoring twice in the first minute to pull within 13-7. Emmanuel stopped the run two minutes later with their 14th goal of the game. The Saints added a goal before Brown and Sztyler-Magee answered for Dean to make the score 15-9. Emmanuel scored three of the next four goals to secure the 18-10 victory.
